We live in a strange time for American religion.
Christian groups are appearing more often on hate group lists (see my blog post here), and today the Thomas More Law Center in Ann Arbor, Mich., continued its fight against the 2009 Federal Hate Crimes Act.
Why are some Christian groups so against hate crime laws? It’s because they believe the laws will get them in trouble for condemning homosexuals.
Today the Thomas More Law Center appealed a lower court decision dismissing the center’s federal lawsuit challenging the Federal Hate Crimes Act. “This statute is all about elevating (homosexuals) to a protected class under federal law based on nothing more than their choice to have sex with a person of the same gender, while marginalizing strong religious opposition to this immoral choice,” the brief filed by the law center stated.
In 10 years, what will people think of today’s Christians who are so hostile to a class of people?
Anti-gay faith-based groups are losing the battle, and they are in a frenzy about it, causing reason to give way to sordid emotions.
